1. Reduce Land Degradation
Removed 235 tons over 15 km2 of invasive Optunia Cactus.
Removed 184 tons over 15 km2 of waste and litter.
Habitat has been enhanced for endemic, threatened and migratory species.
2. Reintroducing Flagship Species
23 Nubian Ibex released in February 2023 and are thriving.
10 Mountain Gazelle released in November 2023.
All these initiatives contribute to consolidating the concept of environmental sustainability while developing a luxury mountain tourism destination.
About Juniper Tree
Juniperus procera Info:
Arboreal plant species of the genus Juniper belonging to the family Cypressaceae. It is native to the Arabian Peninsula especially southwest of Saudi Arabia, Asir Province.
Juniper Trunk:
Juniperus procera is a medium-sized tree up to 5-15m high, its trunk reaches 1.5-2m in diameter and a rounded or irregular cone-shaped crown.
Juniper Leaves:
The leaves consist of two forms, young needle-like leaves 8-15 mm long on seedlings, and adult scaly leaves 0.5-3 mm long on old plants, arranged in pairs of jaws or flowers of three.
Juniper Berries:
It is largely dioecious with separate male and female plants, but some individual plants produce both sexes. Cones resemble berries, 4-8mm in diameter, blue-black with a white waxy bloom, contain 2-5 seeds; ripen in 12-18 months. The length of the male cones is 3-5mm, they discard pollen in early spring. Berries are a rich source of food for wildlife, especially birds.
Soudah Development is the first developer in the region to join the Mountain Partnership since 2021 through a voluntary alliance committed to improving the lives of the local community and protecting the mountain environment.
